On October 25, 1945, all officers and soldiers of the Taiwan Provincial Garrison Command took a group photo after the "Ceremony for the Surrender of Taiwan Province of the Chinese Theater" was held in the Taipei Public Hall. The Chinese Kuomintang party flag is hung on the left half, and the Republic of China flag is hung on the right half.

Retrocession Day is the name given to the annual observance and unofficial holiday and former public holiday in Taiwan to commemorate the end of Japanese rule of Taiwan and Penghu, and the claimed retrocession of Taiwan to the Republic of China on October 25, 1945.
